Disappointment

Sensei Mariedke told me last night that she will be closing the school effective immediately or at the very latest in March. To say that this is a disappointment is quite the understatement. I am going to try and buy some of the training equipment and mats from her and eventually set up a small dojo in my basement, but in the mean time i am looking for a new place to train. This might be a perfect opportunity to get into brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, aikido, or hapkido. There is a Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu school that trains at the University of Calgary, but the commute is unreasonably long. I've already made inquiries at the Ishi Yama Judo Club and an Aikikai Aikido club that are near where I live. We'll see how things go...

Renee and I worked on some brochures for the dojo this weekend. We made some fold-out flyers to put in the lobby of the leisure centre where we train, as well as some signs to put up to direct people thru the leisure center to the training area. I also put together a 8.5" x 11" poster to put up at grocery stores, libraries, community centers, schools, etc to get some more exposure.

No training at the dojo this week due to the Canada Day holiday and vacation. I did get the mats set up in the basement and my home dojo is ready to go! All I need now is a uke. Any volunteers? :)

picked up some extra mats that Mariedke has and brought them home. With any luck i'll have a small training area set up in the basement by the end of the weekend.
