Most people weren't able to make class last night. As such, we had a small group; Mariedke, Colby, and me. Colby is new to jiu jitsu, but has been training in martial arts since he was 10 (he is in his early 30s).

i went through all of the stances, blocks, and punches with Colby as well as radial, BPO, and lateral femoral strikes. Colby is one of those people who doesn't feel pain. None of the pressure points phased him at all, even when using 30-40% power.

We finished up with two new takedowns for Colby: ankle-thigh and neck twist. we worked on these several times and then incorporated them into some wrist grab techniques.

Did some one-on-one reviewing with Colby on breakfalls 1,2,3, and 5.
Reviewed Defensive stance and moving in defensive stance. Jab, cross, hook, and upper cut.

Had 1 pair of students on the focus mitts and the 3rd student on a heavy bag. with jab/cross/hook/upper cut. reviewed open hand computer stuns with the heavy bag.

Reviewed wrist grabs: inline, cross, both wrists low, 2 hands on one wrist.

2 hands on throat from front, close, arms bent.

After, Sensei Mariedke took the two white belts and I worked with Kyle on club defense. Both Kyle and Sensei Mariedke have experience in Arnis so I learned some new disarms and takedowns for club defense in addition to the usual can-ryu club defense. We also reviewed the inner winding throw and variations of how to grab uke's arm/shoulder.

Back atfer some traveling

I was traveling on business all week last week. Tonight's class was my first time back on the mats where I was healthy enough to participate.

We had a new student come and try the club out tonight. I went over breakfalls 1,2,3, and 7 with the new student. Then I took the other two adults and we started reviewing the defensive stance and the jab and cross. From there, I introduced the high forearm block and we worked that into the jab/cross drills. After this, I went over the knee-ankle take down. Then we put everything together: right cross/hook attack, high forearm block, palm heel to the nose, and step in for the knee-ankle takedown.

To finish off, I showed them a bear hug from behind, under the arms: drop the body weight, elbows in to trap the arms and grab the hands. emphasised "attacking the attacker". knuckle punches to the back of the hands, throw uke's right hand away while keeping the left hand, elbow to the solar plexus, groin strike, and elbow to the brachial plexus origine, followed up with the knee-ankle takedown.

First class after the holidays

First class back after the holidays.

I worked about 10-15 minutes on the defensive stance: getting into the defensive stance, foot/hand/body positioning, and walking. Illustrated the stability of the defensive stance vs a horse stance and the arm bending demo of a punch with the fist sideways vs at a 45 degree angle.

Tied two skipping ropes together end-to-end and had the students work on walking and ducking under the rope while keeping posture and looking forward and keeping the hands up. After we worked on the jab and cross. some shadow boxing to work coordination with the hands and feet and then some punches to the focus mitts.

Techniques: Thumb lock from a lapel grab, thumb lock from a lapel grab turning it into an inner wrist-lock takedown and a control (student's choice).

I then reviewed bear hugs lifting off the ground from the front & rear, over & under arms and full nelson before fully applied, fully applied, and fully applied while pushing head down. We did a few basic escapes from each and then started working on variations.
