class would have been great had I been into it. i just felt a bit off and as a result class was only ok. Worked on some more combos: ko ouchi gari, o ouchi gari, o soto gari or uchi mata.

My o soto gari is coming along well. my form is getting better in uchi komi, but it's still an issue to be able to execute it on a resisting opponent in randori.

the trick for the transition to uchi mata is after you finish o ouchi gari to pull uke forward right before he has a chance to place his leg back on the ground behind him.

I did one round of ne waza and was able to use sankaku jime that we learned last week with some success. I was also able to sink in an okuri eri jime. I have found that a trick to make this choke more effective: make sure you're up high on uke - higher than you would be for a rear naked choke. ideally you'd want uke's neck to be around your elbows so you still retain good strength and leverage in your arms to apply the choke. This also allows you to look over uke's shoulder and see what uke is doing to defend against your okuri eri jime.

good god i didn't know that my fingers could ever get this sore. On the plus side, i managed to execute okuri eri jime successfully. unfortunately it was the only successful technique of the evening. Some of the cob webs are working themselves out. I still felt rusty last night, but better than last week. A big help was that we spent a good deal of time practicing combinations.

After a week of being sick i made it back to class. After the warmup we reviewed breakfalls.

We then spent the majority of class working on o goshi and o soto gari. I made it a point to practice my throwing on my left side. It felt so... wrong. I wonder if this is how it felt when I was first learning to throw on the right side. A good class altogether.

Tonight I worked on outter reap takedowns. This allowed us to review all of the yellow belt hold escapes, but to use the outter reap. I also covered a few afterthrows: rowing the boat, arm bar turn-over, as well as twist shoulder lock, knees on ribs and BPO, and cross armlock.

we then spent about 20 minutes played with the two ground techniques that I learned on Friday and finished off the class with overhead club defense.

back after being sick

Tonight was my first class back on the mats after contracting a viral throat infection and an ear infection.

It was a small class tonight; I worked one on one with Trevor and Kyle went with the juniors and then joined us when the juniors class was over.

Tonight I worked on inner wrist-lock and outer reap takedowns with Trevor. After he got the hang of the takedowns, I started going over some after-throw controls: shoulder lock, knees on ribs/neck with wrist lock, arm pin, and a prone arm-bar.

This was a great class. I felt energized and Trevor was absorbing everything like a sponge.

I am out of town next week, so I won't be able to get back on the mats until March 10.

Worked on wrist grabs; 1 hand on 1 wrist, 2 hands on 1 wrist, 1 hand on each wrist. knee-ankle takedowns, osoto-gari with arm-bar after-throw.
